It involves the application of a very strong thermal stimulus i.e. low temperature up to minus 160 C0. The treatment is performed on a very small area – it usually involves one big joint, a foot, an hand, or a section of the spine. As a cooling agent, liquid nitrogen is used, which induces a strong contraction of blood vessels in the treated area, followed by their intensive dilation.
