The therapeutic mud used for the treatment belongs to the natural peloid group (pelos Gr. means 'mud'), i.e. peat muds, which are rich in organic and non-organic compounds; having penetrated the tissues, the compounds trigger many beneficial therapeutic reactions. The additional therapeutic element of the treatment is the mud's thermal reaction. Mud poultice involves covering the treated area with a layer of warm mud (temp. up to 550C) – usually they are applied on one or two joints, or one section of the spine. Mud baths refer to hands, which are placed in special tubs filled with therapeutic mud.
